The Orbis Marine Heat Detector monitors ambient air temperature using a single thermistor. The Orbis Marine range comprises twelve heat detector models, each engineered to perform reliably under a broad range of operating conditions.
Operation:
Orbis heat detectors are designed with an open-web housing that enables unrestricted airflow over the thermistor. Air temperature is sampled every two seconds and processed by an integrated microprocessor, which records the readings and compares them against predefined thresholds to determine whether the alarm temperature has been exceeded. For rate-of-rise versions, the microprocessor also calculates the speed at which the temperature is rising using dedicated algorithms.
Static heat detectors activate only once a specified temperature limit is reached. Rate-of-rise detectors, while also incorporating a fixed upper temperature threshold, continuously monitor the rate of temperature increase. This allows potential fires to be identified earlier than with static detectors. Rate-of-rise detectors are therefore recommended unless rapid temperature fluctuations are a normal characteristic of the protected area.
